Access iViewPlus

At the iViewPlus home page, select the 'Sign in' button to login using your NHS Digital account or register to create and NHS Digital account if you don't have one.

Create and run a query

P1 no.1

Select 'Query Designer' from the toolbar.

  1. Choose Dataset - all datasets you are authorised to view are listed. If you wish to change the default dataset displayed, please choose another dataset (if available) from the list.
  2. Select 'Choose Columns' and then select a measure (and dimension if required) from the list. (If you wish to apply a measure filter please refer to the next section)
  3. Select 'Choose Rows' and then select the required dimension(s) from the list. (If you wish to apply dimension filters please refer to the next section)
  4. Select 'Run' to run your query.

To clear your selection and start again at any time, select the 'Clear' button.

Apply filters to a query

Measure filtering - available for measures selected in 'Columns'.

Select the measure to filter then select the filter symbol.

Insert your filter criteria, by value or range, in the filter box.

Dimention filtering - available for dimentions selected in 'Rows'.

Select '>' to view available options.

To apply filter options, tick the required selection(s).

Query results are automatically displayed by default as a bar chart and data table. Select any of the icons displayed next to a chart to change the visualisation type. To save a query, select the 'Save' button, add a name for the query and select 'OK'. To clear query results and return to Query Designer view, select the 'Clear' button.

The Query Manager

Query Manager allows users to effectively manage saved queries. There are several functions available. To enable a function, select the relevant icon.

Please note data is exported in comma-separated values (CSV) file format.

Create and save a dashboard

Select 'Dashboard Designer' from the toolbar than 'Create'. You must have at least one query saved to create a dashboard.

Select the '˅' symbol next to the required dataset. A list of your saved queries for that dataset is displayed. Select the '+' symbol to add a query to the dashboard. You can select a maximum of four queries per dashboard.

Select to remove a query from the dashboard panel.

Select the cogwheel to edit settings; add a chart title or change the visualisation type.

Select  P4 no.5  to change the dashboard panel view. Note: panel types display varies depending on the number of queries selected within the dashboard panel. Individual query position within the dashboard panel can be interchanged by selecting then dragging the query to the desired location.

Select 'Save' to save your dashboard. Enter a name for the dashboard then select 'OK' to save or 'Cancel' to start again.

Users can link queries by selecting the 'Link Associated Queries' box in the 'Save' window. The link function gives users the option to drill down/drill up queries within a dashboard simultaneously. The link function operates only for queries within a dashboard that have the same measure and dimension(s) selections.

Saved dashboards can be accessed via the Dashboard Designer or Dashboard Manager. If you edit a saved dashboard any changes made are auto-saved.

About the Dashboard Manager

Dashboard Manager allows users to effectively manage saved dashboards. There are several functions available. To enable a function, select the relevant icon.

Dashboards can also be exported. However, this functionality is only available via the Dashboard Designer.

To export, open the dashboard either from Dashboard Manager or from the dashboard list in Dashboard Designer, then select the export icon located in the dashboard panel.

Share a query or dashboard with other iViewPlus users

Sharing functionality is available in both Query Manager and Dashboard Manager. You can share your own queries and dashboards and also re-share queries and dashboards that have been shared with you. Please note you can only share to other registered users of iViewPlus.

To share, select the share icon for the query or dashboard you want to share. A pop up window then appears:

If you want to share to an individual(s), you must enter a valid email address for the individual(s). A valid email address is confirmed by display of your entered text against an orange background. The email address entered must match the registered iViewPlus email address for the individual(s) with whom you wish to share. Select the 'Share' button to action.

If you want to share to a team of users, team memberships are available for selection from a drop down list presented in the 'Share' window. You can only share to a team if you are a registered member of that team in iViewPlus. Any team selections made are confirmed by display of the selected team name against a blue background. Select the 'Share' button to action.

When a shared query or dashboard is successfully received, a new notification message appears in the recipients Notifications page which can be accessed from the toolbar.

Received queries and dashboards can be accessed from 'Received' tabs located in both the Query Manager and Dashboard Manager. A record of shared queries and dashboards is available in 'Shared' tabs. Users can edit received queries and dashboards and save a new copy if required.

Received queries can be used when creating dashboards and are available for selection from the 'user queries' section in Dashboard Designer unless they are deleted. Received dashboards can also be accessed for viewing or edit in Dashboard Designer.
