Independent Communication Manager

The Independent Communications Manager (ICM) acts as the communications interface for National Health Applications and Infrastructure Services (NHAIS) applications.

Its purpose is to shield NHAIS applications from changes which could affect normal day-to-day operations, whether they are changes to the way data is exchanged across the NHS, or changes in the underlying technology.

If the technology for sending and receiving data changes, ICM is changed to meet these new standards.

ICM is used for transfers from NHAIS to screening offices, pathology laboratories, NHS Blood and Transplant and Bank Automated Clearing Services.
